Coat of Arms
The village of Uythuysen or later spelled Uithuizen is located near the coast of the North Sea in
Northern Holland, near Groningen. Supposedly, the town was first built on a manmade hill to be
protected from the sea and was called “Oldorp,” Then as more dikes were built, the people built
homes and moved into the “outer houses.” The town was renamed Uythuysen. Now, in 1989, this
town is merging with a neighboring town and the name is being changed to “Hefshuizen.” The Coat of
Arms which appears on the city hall in this picture is also being changed but the current coat of arms
will be preserved in a museum.
The Coat of Arms that was displayed on the Uythuysen City Hall has been adopted by the Outhouse
Family Historical Society as its family crest. On April 27, 1989, Mayor J.M. Zandbergen of Uithuizen,
Holland received a contingent of members of the Outhouse Family Historical Society and presented
each of them with a copy of the coat of arms.
Our Purpose
The purpose of the Society is to collect, verify, compile and distribute genealogical and historical information about the Outhouse (Uithuizen) family in North America. Provide genealogical research and assistance to Outhouse family members and lineal descendants. Locate and communicate with living members of the Outhouse family in North America. Promote social contact among members of the Outhouse Family through reunions, meetings, newsletters, and exchange family information.
